The famous Dudley Spencer House in Wilmington, the only Frank Lloyd Wright designed home in Delaware, has been listed for sale with an asking price of just $1.3 million. The private Usonian house has been listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
According to Curbed, the home is one of Wright's last commissions as he built the home in 1956, just three years before he passed away in 1959. He christened the house "Laurel". The home is built in typical Wright style with a dominant curvilinear form.
The listing of the home reads:
"The only Frank Lloyd Wright structure in Delaware, The Dudley Spencer House, named Laurel for the first time is now offered up for sale. This 3 bedroom 2 bath contemporary home is on the National Register of Historic Places. Laurels beautiful curvilinear form creates open living space with a central eat in kitchen and three satellite bedrooms. Orientation of this home, design of rooms, and built in furniture, designed by Wright for the home offers abundance of storage and allows guests and homeowners view outward towards surrounding wooded acreage, creek and sculpture garden paths. Terraced outdoor spaces also enjoy... private views. Although a private peaceful setting this North Wilmington home is convenient to everything!"
In the past few months, many Wright designed homes have hit the listing market including the Tonkens Home in Cincinnati, the Samuel Novarro Estate in Los Feliz and the Staircase Home, which went through some controversy before being sold to an anonymous buyer, who will be renovating and preserving the home.
