‘Fast & Furious’ News: Producer Neal Moritz Will Bring CrossFire to the Big Screen

The online tactical first-person shooter for PC "CrossFire" by South Korean developer SmileGate is hitting the big screen.

The shooter game "CrossFire" will be adapted into a movie to be produced by Fast & Furious films producer Neal Moritz. According to Variety, SmileGate has been has been receiving proposals from Hollywood producers and studios for a year now. The company announced Monday in Seoul that the deal is awarded to Moritz's company because SmileGate has faith that Moritz has the ability to convert the game into a multi-movie series like it did with the Fast and Furious Films.

As a game, it was first launched by the Korean developer in 2007. It has always been a first-person shooter game involving two teams which is regularly gets updated with fixes, new versions and expansions. According to Variety,  SmileGate claims that the game has  400 million registered users and up to 6  million simultaneous players. It is a free-to-play game but it gets its substantial revenue from from add-ons. SmileGate has reportedly earn $1.3 last year alone.

"We will make the best film out of 'Crossfire,' the world's largest FPS game, with Smilegate," Variety quotes what Moritz has said in a statement. "We highly appreciate the potential in the "Crossfire" brand, and are honored to be chosen to spread this strong content to all movie fans around the world."

On the other hand, Baek Min-jung, the brand marketing vice president of SmileGate, said, "I believe this partnership will showcase the power of the Korean online game IP,"

According to The Wrap, this will be the first time a Korean game will be adapted to a Hollywood film. Moreover, it is said to be the initial step in for SmileGate to expand the "CrossFire" brand globally. The "Crossfire" movie will be produced for international audiences under Moritz's company named "Original Film with its very own Tania Landau and Toby Ascher as executive producers. In the meantime, the release date, screenwriter, director and distributor for the film has yet to be announced.
