The Hollywood Reporter first broke the news that Relativity Television is now working on a "Hack/Slash" TV series.
Skip Woods, who was known for his works including "Swordfish," "A Good Day to Die Hard," and the "Hitman" franchise, will write the script. He will join as an executive producer alongside Adrian Askarieh and Ray Ricord, with co-executive producers Daniel Alter and Geoffrey Yim.
According to IGN, the script of the "Hack/Slash" TV series was originally developed as a live-action film in 2008. It was reported that it will be produced by the production's company, Relativity Media. It has the names of directors Marcus Nispel ("Conan"), Fredrik Bond ("Charlie Countryman"), and Todd Lincoln ("The Apparition"), as well as writers Justin Marks (2015 version of "The Jungle Book") and Stephen Susco ("The Grudge") attached to the project. However, the film was never put into fruition.
The "Hack/Slash" comic book series was first published in 2004. It is created and written by Tim Seeley and Stefano Caselli. It is currently under Image Comics and was previously published by Devil's Due Publishing. It will now join the roster of the publisher's successfully adapted comic book series, including AMC's "The Walking Dead" by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore.
"Hack/Slash" tackles the current cliche regarding the "Final Girl," who is said to be the lone female character in every horror movie. This time, the story follows the emotionally damaged Cassie Hack who now becomes a "killer of killers."
Cassie is accompanied by her protector named Vlad, and together, they travel across the country to hunt for "slashers." The so-called "slashers," who are also called "Revenants," also included the crossover appearance of "Chucky" from the "Child's Play" franchise, Jason Voorhees from "Halloween," and other various horror movie characters.
Aside from the announcement, the "Hack/Slash" TV series is on the lookout for directors to make "a dark and gritty show in The Walking Dead mold."
