'Nintendo NX' Release Date, News, Rumors: A Mobile Console Hybrid?

Nintendo NX, a new game console, is speculated to be a mobile console hybrid, beating the Wii U and other 3D consoles, Expert Reviews reported.

The console was first mentioned by former Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, during an investor presentation in March 2015. "As proof that Nintendo maintains strong enthusiasm for the dedicated game system business, let me confirm that Nintendo is currently developing a dedicated game platform with a brand-new concept under the development codename 'NX.' It is too early to elaborate on the details of this project, but we hope to share more information with you next year," said Iwata.

The said announcement followed the press release that they were working with popular Japanese mobile games publisher DeNA to create mobile games. The new console of Nintendo will incorporate existing Nintendo games by using the "new membership service" into its current consoles that include the Wii U and 3DS, and its new platforms, the NX and mobile devices, as well as PC via the web, Tech Insider wrote.

"If you only expand upon existing hardware, it's dull. In some shape or form, we're always thinking about how we want to surprise players as well as our desire to change each person's video gaming life," Iwata said to Japanese newspaper, Nikkei.

Nintendo NX is rumored to be released in 2016 and will run on Android. It is also speculated that the system will be called "Cross" and that it might use cartridges again instead of discs.

The next console is allegedly a handheld and a home console all-in-one, which manifests that it could be a portable game pad like what users have with the Nintendo 3DS, Wall Street Journal reported.

Dragon Quest XI and Dragon Quest X games will be released on the NX as revealed by Square Enix producer, Yosuke Saito.
