A Look at Nominees of 2013 Doory Awards “Converted Homes” Category (PHOTOS)

A new quarterly survey conducted by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has found that the number of renovation projects is outpacing new construction projects, especially bathroom and kitchen remodeling ones.

Real estate website Zillow has a separate category in its annual Doory Awards for converted houses.

While voting and entries for America's most cherished and loved homes, listed for sale in various categories for the 2013 Doory Awards are open until June, Zillow takes a look at some of the nominees in the "Converted Homes" category. Some of them are former firehouses or concert halls. Others are barns, schoolhouses or meeting areas.
