Jill Duggar, Husband Refunds Donations for Questionable Missionary Work

Jill Duggar and husband Derick Dillard is offering refund to fans who have sent donations to help fund their missionary work, which was allegedly used for their a vacation to Central America, Softpedia reported.

The couple said that they will have a mission trip and solicited for donations. But the said mission work was scrutinized by many especially that it was revealed that the two were not certified to do missionary work by their church’s parent organization, the Southern Baptist Convention.

According to Derick, they were "certified" for the mission through a prayer ceremony, which actually isn't the proper way of certifying since they would still need to undergo a strict process as well as different courses.

“Upon returning to the United States, we have hit the ground running. Just this past weekend, we were commissioned to the mission field by our home church,” Derick wrote on his personal blog. “The commissioning consisted of our pastor leading the congregation in praying for our family as we work on the mission field. We are eternally grateful for Christ’s body, the church. That same day, we also had the joy of attending Jill’s cousin Amy’s wedding.”

Due to the controversy, the couple is offering refunds for the donors through their non-profit group, Dillard Family Ministries. The donation page now mentions that it allows donors to ask for refunds, should they wish it, Daily Mail reported. Many fans said that they were able to take a vacation and could even fly at least twice going back to the United States.

A fan, Shadman Rolfe, even openly posted her concern on their Facebook page saying, “I (love) you all and Jill and Derick but it (concerns) me that I am sending (money) for them to do missions and (they) fly home 2 times for weddings. I want to know if my cash is paying for this or (ministry). I want to serve the Lord and I want to give (but) I need to know my money is being used right.”

Instead of answering the controversy, Jill and Derick continues posting family pictures and updates. A tab on the Dillard Family Ministry site explaining the matter was once posted but was already deleted.
