"The Big Bang Theory" star Simon Helberg, who plays Howard Wolowitz, an aerospace engineer alongside co-stars Kunal Nayyar, Jim Parsons, and Johnny Galecki, expressed his desire to meet Howard's estranged dad in the TV series.
“I think it would be nice to potentially meet his dad,” he said, especially that viewers has been introduced to some of the character's parents, including Howard's mom, Debbie, played by Carol Ann Susi. But they need to lay Debbie's character to rest as Susi passed away in real life, Cinema Blend reported.
Howard's dad, Sam Wolowitz, left him and his mom Debbie when he was just 11-years-old. Because of that, Sam wasn't seen throughout nine seasons but after the death of Debbie, he signed the house over to Howard without contacting him.
“I like it when the writers get deep because it’s hard to do that on a sitcom without hearing the cheesy violin or having that special episode feeling, and they do it so well and I love getting to learn about this character I’ve played and known for over seven years, and getting to discover things I never knew," Helberg said according to Press Association.
Fans are looking forward to Howard and Sam's reunion, in whatever ways. Their meeting would expectedly be awkward but could be a good opportunity to spill some comedy lines.
“I don’t write the show, I don’t create any of those aspects so I get a script, open it and find out his dad abandoned him. It’s interesting. I can’t wait to see what they’ve got for us,” Helberg added.
Helberg recently released his first directional film, "We’ll Never Have Paris" based on his real-life engagement with wife Jocelyn Towne. He said that his experience on "The Big Bang Theory" has a great impact to his new stint.
“It definitely helped in many ways, and I also think there are setbacks that come with it too because it’s in a completely different universe that my film exists in. It’s something I’m learning about now, about how those worlds affect each other,” he said.
He also added that it is important to remain humble, saying he “doesn’t need to go back to space."
