Jonathan Grayer, former CEO of education giant, Kaplan Inc., has reportedly listed his waterfront mansion in Rye, New York for $16 million.
According to the listing records, the home last sold in 2009 for around $9.9 million.
Built in 1900, the mansion is a huge 11,531 square feet home sitting on a 1.16 acre lot. Comprising of six bedrooms and eight full and one half bathroom, the home is a beautiful custom-built manor.
Interiors of the home feature carpeted and hardwood flooring, French doors and windows and beamed ceilings. The three story, single family residence is designed with classic architectural styles and exudes both modern and vintage vibes.
Living spaces include a formal drawing room, a dining area, a family room and a sitting room. Other amenities include a media room, a spa, a game room, a gym, a wine cellar and a modern kitchen. It also has an indoor lap pool clad in glass. The home has multiple balconies that feature lovely views of the Kirby Pond.
Outside, the home has ample seating areas, large parking garages and courtyard parking as well, plus vast stretches of greenery within the home's compound.
According to Curbed, Grayer spent a part of the $80 million that he received as a severance package from Kaplan Inc. when he retired in 2008, on the renovation of the beautiful residence.
Grayer joined Kaplan Inc in 1992 and went ahead to become the president and chief operating officer of the company in the next five years. When he joined, the company was losing a lot of money but with his expertise he took Kaplan Inc to new heights and redefined the brand image of the company. Grayer is the man behind Kaplan's expansion and diversification into other markets.
Currently, Grayer is the CEO and chairman of Weld North LLC, an investment firm that focuses on media, marketing, education and consumer service businesses.
