'Motorola Moto X Play' vs 'Motorola Moto X Style' Review, Specs, Features: 'Play' Has Better Battery Life, 'Style' Has Colorful Variants And Front Flash

Both the "Moto X Play" and the "Moto X Style" were announced last July and it might be quite confusing for some to determine how these two differ from each other. So here is a quick comparison review of the "Motorola Moto X Play" and the "Motorola Moto X Style":

"Motorola Moto X Play" - "Motorola Moto X Style" BODY and DISPLAY

The "Motorola Moto X Play" measures 5.83 x 2.95 x 0.43 inches while the "Motorola Moto X Style"  has a measurement of 6.06 x 3 x 0.44 inches. Both phones are water repellant with IP52 certification and they also both use IPS LCD capacitive screen. However, the "Motorola Moto X Style" has a bigger display of 5.7 inches and it has a better resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels.  The "Motorola Moto X Play" only has a 5.5 inches display size with 1080 x 1920 resolution.

Both phones are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

"Motorola Moto X Play" and "Motorola Moto X Style" runs Android v5.1.1 Lollipop with possible Marshmallow upgrade. The two phones differ in the chipsets that power them. The "Motorola Moto X Play" uses Snapdragon 615 with a CPU of Quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 & quad-core 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 while the "Motorola Moto X Style" uses a Snapdragon 808 chipset with Dual-core 1.8 GHz Cortex-A57 & quad-core 1.44 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU.

"Motorola Moto X Play" has two storage variants (16/32 GB) and it has 2 GB RAM. The "Motorola Moto X Style" on the other hand has three storage variants (16/32/64 GB) and it has 3 GB RAM. Both phones have a microSD slot with up to 128 GB capacity.

The two phones don't differ at all when it comes to their rear cameras, as both the Moto X Play and the Moto X Style have a good 21 MP primary camera with dual tone flash. But when it comes to their front cameras, both phones do share the same 5 MP front cam spec, but only the "Motorola Moto X Style" has a front LED flash.

The "Motorola Moto X Play" has an FM radio, the "Motorola Moto X Style" doesn't. Both phones boast of their fast battery charging feature - "Motorola Moto X Style" can get 34% power in just 15 minutes. "Motorola Moto X Play" uses a 3630 mAh battery while "Motorola Moto X Style" uses a 3000 mAh battery. "Motorola Moto X Play" has a battery life endurance rating of 83 hours while the "Motorola Moto X Style" only has a 63 hours of battery life endurance rating.

"Moto X Play" only has two color options, black or white, while the "Moto X Style" has a more stylish set of options (Black lens/Dark Gray Frame and accents/ Black Soft Feel InlayWhite lens/Silver Frame and accents/Bamboo Inlay).

"Motorola Moto X Play" - "Motorola Moto X Style" PRICE, VERDICT

"Motorola Moto X Play" costs around 270 Euro while "Motorola Moto X Style" is at around 360 Euro. Coming from the same company, these two phones are targeted towards different sets of audiences. If you are an active smartphone user, the "Motorola Moto X Play" is your best choice as it has a bigger battery with a longer battery life. But if you want to go for stylish, the "Motorola Moto X Style" has great color options and it also has a front flash for selfie takers.
