7 Other Uses of Your Wallpaper Left-Over

Colleen Simpson writes in her article in Stuff that "the wallpaper has, in recent years, made a comeback in a big, bold and sometimes brassy way." With her statement that the wallpaper is not just for walls, she shares her ideas on its other possible uses.

1. As artwork

Put a beautiful and detailed portion of what is left of your wallpaper in a frame and hang it as a piece of art. Sarah Newell of Real Simple suggests that pieces of wallpaper, when grouped together, create a miniature of gallery. She also recommends that before cutting a section of the wallpaper to frame, let the mat board be your guide, by tracing around the outside of the mat, before cutting.

2. As gift wrapper or gift bag

You may lovingly wrap a gift with it or make a bag for that special present using an excess part of the wallpaper. As Simpson wrote it, handmade bags, since made with much thought and care, are a kind of gift in their own right.

3. As drawer lining

Wallpaper remnants are perfect drawer liners, especially if a scent is added into it. Just cut to size then attach double sided tapes or removable mounting squares to keep the lining in place. Dust a little scented talcum powder underneath for a good smelling drawer and the bits and pieces that you plan to put inside it.

4. As wall clock background

For something creative and unique, you may use your wallpaper to be a background for your wall clock.

Newell adds the following to Simpson's list of projects:

5. As wall hanging

You may choose a length of the wallpaper to look like those scroll-ends Asian art-inspired room décor. Fold the edges on top and on the bottom and hold in place with wooden rulers or dowel rods. Secure with a tape and use a ribbon to hang.

6. As book covers

Cover your favorite book with the extra wallpapers. It will, perhaps, be great to learn that many of these wallpapers are tear-resistant so you can be assured that your favorite reads will really be protected.

7. As tin can camouflage

Replace your mug penholder with aluminium cans clad in pieces of wallpaper. Just wash, peel off and dry the label from the can. Use the original label as pattern to cut the right size. Attach double-sided tape along the top, bottom and seam to secure the strip.
