“Think. Eat. Save” on World Environment Day 2013

Another green day has arrived. June 5 is 'World Environment Day' and if you are wondering how to make the most of the day, you have found your way to the right place.

The first WED was celebrated in 1973 during the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment, which ran from June 5 to 16. Run by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the day is marked to spread and raise awareness about the need to take positive environmental action.

Though WED is celebrated throughout the world, the main event is hosted by a single particular country every year. The annual event has a different theme every time and is celebrated along with an international exposition in the week following WED.

This year, the global host of WED is Mongolia and the theme is "Think. Eat. Save: Reduce Your Foodprint". This year's theme is directed towards raising awareness about the issue of food wastage and loss.

According to the UNEP official website:

"Think.Eat.Save: Reduce your Foodprint draws attention to the enormous ethical, economic and environmental issue that food waste/loss poses as well as the need to let people all over the world know that they have a role to play in addressing the global food waste pandemic."

Now for those of you who cannot take off and witness the beautiful WED celebration in Mongolia, here is what you can do.
