The film "War for the Planet of the Apes" is surely on its way as it has been confirmed that filming has begun.
A Twitter post from Matt Reeves, who is the one directing the third ape-centric film, surfaced and confirmed the work. Reeves shared a photo from the set which he simply captioned, "#It has begun."
"War for the Planet of the Apes" reportedly is filming in Vancouver. According to IGN, Andy Serkis, who was present in the first two "Planet of the Apes" franchises will reprise his role as the main protagonist Caesar. He will be joined by Woody Harrelson (known to have played as Haymitch in "The Hunger Games" series) who in the other hand will be playing as the villain called "colonel". Rumor has it that Steve Zahn ("Dallas Buyer's Club" and "Joy Ride") will be cast as an ape but his particular identity is yet unknown.
This film "War for the Planet of the Apes" by Matt Reeves is actually a reboot of the 1968 classic. According to Slash Film, the scene in the photo shared by Reeves looks like a rendition of iconic moment on the beach at the end of the original movie. Having said that the scene from the original movie where the Statue of Liberty was destroyed in a beach was brought up, touting fans to wonder if the same scene will take place in the movie reboot or will it explain a connection between the original movie and "War for the Planet of the Apes."
Reeves, knowing that fans would likely think that way, has explained, "The idea would never be to remake the '68 film. There might be some of those events from another perspective, and obviously to also see them as events that grew out of everything that we've been watching from this new iteration. They wouldn't be exactly the same either. So if, and when, we ever get there, which I think is an exciting notion, it would definitely not be a remake but it would be sort of a re-telling of those events from a new perspective. And the events themselves would probably be a bit different since they will have grown out of these films."
"War for the Planet of the Apes" is slated for release on July 14, 2017.
