Celebrity real estate news writer Lisa Davis announced in Realtor that rock star and superstar Bruce Springsteen's former New Jersey house is back on the market, which was listed last June for $60M. Davis adds that while The Boss' Beverly Hills compound was not the sort of place affordable to most of his fans, this recent property for sale may likely be with its asking price of only $299,000.
Billboard describes that the 828-square-foot, two-bedroom, one-bathroom cottage, located in 7 ½ West End Court in Long Beach, is currently owned by three of Springsteen's fans. They bought it in 2009 with the plan of turning it into a tribute to their rock legend idol, and because the house played an important role in the career of Springsteen. It was in the same house where he wrote all the songs included on the 'Born to Run' album, the title track and other classic songs such as "Thunder Road" and "Jungleland," among others. The rock star lived in the residence from 1974 to 1975.
Mary Ann Spoto of NJ.com shares that six years ago, these three Springsteen admirers - Jerry Ferrara, his sister, Kim McDermott, and a friend, Ryan DeCarolis, bought the house for $280,000 with the purpose of renovating and preserving it.
"We'd been to a couple of auctions where people paid a ridiculous amount of money for a (Springsteen) signed guitar," Ferrara told NJ.com. But it was almost the height of the market and he admitted, "we probably paid more than it was worth when we bought it."
However, the plan of the three was derailed. DeCarolis took a partner for life and his business boomed, while McDermott got divorced. Aside from new wood floors, a new roof and a new vinyl siding were never completed. And they decided that it was time for them to let the property go.
Incidentally, Springsteen celebrated the 40th anniversary of the "Born to Run" Album release this year.
