Hotel Room Rates in Samui Remain Stable Until 2017

The hotel room rates will stay stable in Thailand until 2017, as forecasted by The Tourism Association of Koh Samui (TAKS). It is due to stiff competition between underground accommodations.

Same time last year, rates have risen by five percent, President Seni Puwasetthavorn explained. Many hotels must set their deal rates for 2016-2017 to consumers before 2015 ends.

Seni explained that the number of underground accomodations on Koh Samui had increased by 5,000 per year, including weekend houses, serviced apartments, resorts, hotels and foreigners hotels. Seni further explained, "The problem is worsening this year because weekend houses are playing with low prices, as they're focusing on long-stay guests who pay 10 times less than the price of staying in hotels."
