7 Common Household Items To Get Rid of Ants

We all have that common problem - ants marching in your pantry or food left on the dining table. Well, don't fret as Reader's Digest suggests the best common household items that will surely get rid of your ant problem in your home.

Chalk

Draw a line around areas where ants seem to come from. The chalk's calcium carbonate will instantly repel the ants. You can also spread powdered chalk on your garden plants to avoid ants and slugs from drawing into them.

Lemon

To ant-proof your kitchen, squirt lemon juice on your door corners and windowsills. You can also squirt lemon juice into your home's cracks and holes where ants are coming from. Spread small portions of lemon peel around your door entrance, this will tell the ants that they aren't welcome into your home. Note: you can use lemon to get rid of fleas and roaches by mixing juice (from 4 lemons) and half a gallon of water. Wash your floors with the juice. Fleas and roaches actually hate that lemony odor.

Orange

Create a smooth puree made of orange peels with 1 cup of warm water. Pour the juice on anthills and see them flee!

Flour

Sprinkle flour on your pantry and places where you often see the ants. Ants are repelled by the flour.

Salt

Sprinkle salt on the ants' paths or your doorways. Ants won't be crossing the lines made of salt.

Vinegar

Pour 50% vinegar and 50% water in a spray bottle. Spray the solution on anthills and areas where ants frequent. If your property is surrounded by anthills, you can pour vinegar (without water) on them as well.

Boric Acid

Sprinkle boric acid on cracks and holes. Use a baster for you to blow small amounts of the powder into areas where they are hard to reach. Take note, boric acid is toxic if ingested by young kids and pets.
