"Fifty Shades Darker" star Dakota Johnson doesn't mind if fans laugh at how bizarre her character Anastasia Steele is in the film.
In an interview with Elle Magazine, the actress even said that she wants Anastasia to be as amusing to fans as possible. She added that she also wants her character to become more relatable to audiences.
"I needed Anastasia to be funny, if you can't laugh during a movie like that, you're f*cked, literally. You need to have something that everyone can relate to," she said.
Meanwhile, it seems that Johnson tried her best to really live up to fans' expectations of how they want to see Anastasia portrayed for the big screen.
In a previous interview with Vanity Fair, "Fifty Shades of Grey" director Sam Taylor-Johnson gushed over Johnson's portrayal of her character.
"There had to be a sense of wide-eyed, excitable curiosity but grounded in a wordliness. She had to have an inner strength that would carry her through the darkest of moments. I knew straightaway that Dakota was the girl," she said.
Before the role was finally given to Johnson, Universal Pictures and book author E.L James and Taylor -Johnson auditioned different actresses including Emma Watson, Shailene Woodley, Analeigh Tipton and Alicia Vikander.
In other news, fans can expect to see more details about "Fifty Shades Darker" in the coming weeks because James, Niall Leonard and James Foley have already met up to conceptualize on the upcoming sequel.
Although James didn't divulge a lot of details from their recent meeting, fans are already speculating that "Fifty Shades Darker" will be more fun to watch because the execs are in sync compared with James and Taylor-Johnson.
"Fifty Shades Darker" is slated to hit theaters in the United States on Feb. 10, 2017. The film also stars Jamie Dornan as Christian Grey.
