"Dr. Ken," the new comedy series from ABC, will complete its first season as it received a full order of nine episodes.
ABC has taken a liking to "Community's" Ken Jeong and his new comedy series "Dr. Ken." The network has made it official that they are going to order the full season of the TV show that will run for nine episodes. According to Entertainment Weekly, "Dr. Ken" stars Jeong as a doctor who needs to juggle his work as a doctor, his marriage and being a parent. The show debuted on Oct. 2 with 6.7 million viewers. It also received a rating of 1.5 in the 18-49 demographic which is a substantial improvement from the now defunct "Cristela" that was launched last year using the same time slot. These numbers have been recorded as keeping steady since the show's first episode was shown.
In a report by Variety, it was mentioned that the show was created by Jeong himself together with Jared Stern and John Fox. The comedy makes use of multi-camera filming and stars Jeong himself who wrote the series based on his real life practice of medicine before he became widely known as a comedy actor. The show also stars Suzy Nakamura who plays Dr. Ken's wife with Albert Tsai and Krista Marie Yu playing as their children. Other cast members include Dave Foley, Jonathan Slavin, and Tisha Campbell-Martin.
"Dr. Ken" is among the few series that aired this year that received a full season order from their respective networks. "Quantico," the action thriller series, was also picked up by ABC while "Blindspot" was given an order by NBC. "Rosewood" was also offered by Fox while "Grandfathered" and "Grinder" have been ordered additional episodes. The CW also extended the stint of "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend" and the zombie romantic comedy "iZombie."
