It was earlier reported that a new character will be joining "Elementary" in season 4, and now it was reported that John Noble was cast as Sherlock's (Jonny Lee Miller) father.
According to Venture Capital Post, the "Lord of the Rings" star will be playing Morland Holmes. It was reported that the character will be a series regular in the upcoming season of the show. It was earlier reported that the producers wanted to explore on the dynamic relationship Sherlock has with his father. Executive producer Robert Doherty revealed in an earlier interview that they think that it is the best time to add the character to the show. He revealed that the viewers should expect some of longer term story between the two characters and some reasons behind their distant relationship.
Den of Geek reported that Sherlock will not be very happy with the arrival of his father. It was earlier reported that because of his addiction problems, his father can't help himself not to intervene with the problems of his son.
Doherty revealed in an interview that Sherlock will not be appreciating the attention his father his giving him and he thinks that it is too late for them to mend their broken relationship. It was reported that for the last couple of decades, Morland was an absentee dad to Sherlock and having him around will be a very big adjustment for him. In the last San Diego Comic Con held in July, Doherty revealed that Sherlock's problem goes deeper with his heroin addiction.
Meanwhile, Doherty expressed his excitement now that Noble will be joining the cast. He cited that he enjoyed the actor's work in shows like "Fringe" and that he cannot wait to see how he will be working his character along with the other cast like Lucy Liu.
"Elementary" season 4 is scheduled to premiere on CBS on November 5.
