It has been a month since season 2 of "The Last Ship" ended and now, it was confirmed that the show was renewed for season 3 and the cast of the show just got bigger.

According to the site, Regan will be a series regular and she will be playing the role of Sasha. It was reported that Sasha was a former Navy Intelligence Officer and she is now working undercover for the United States government in China.
Now that season 3 is less than a year away, fans are still eagerly waiting for some news about their favorite characters in the show. Showrunners Steve Kane and Hank Steinberg teased some of the details about what awaits Commander Tom Chandler (Eric Dane) and the rest of his crew in the upcoming new season of the show.
According to Ecumenical News, the showrunners revealed in an earlier interview that the open ending in the season 2 finale was done on purpose. They revealed that they wanted a little bit of mystery left for the fans and they wanted the story to be kind of "ambiguous." Steinberg said, "We like the idea of showing that the show's not over, that there're still threats out there."
Steinberg added that in season 1, it was all about surviving and staying alive to be able to get home. Then in season 2, the plan was about how to get things started in America and how the crew will be able to put the country right again. The showrunner revealed that in season 3 they are going to expand the characters' world and this will surely excite the fans as they widen the scope of the story even more.
"The Last Ship" season 3 is currently in production and it is expected to air sometime in the summer of 2016.
