'Agent Carter' Spoilers: Marvel Series Adds Kurtwood Smith As Vernon Masters

"RoboCop" and "That 70's Show" actor Kurtwood Smith joins Marvel's "Agent Carter" for the second season of the ABC series, according to The Hollywood Reporter,

It was also reported that this will be the reunion between Smith and the "Agent Carter" showrunners. Both Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas previously worked as executive producers of the 2014 supernatural drama "Resurrection" before it was cancelled in 2015. Smith played the role of Henry Langston during its two season run.

Kurtwood Smith, who was known for his TV roles as Red Forman in "That 70's Show" and as the villain Clarence Boddicker in the 1987 version of "RoboCop," will take on the role of Vernon Masters. Marvel described the Vernon character as a war veteran who have "a keen understanding of how to work the system."

"We had the pleasure of working with Kurtwood on both 'Resurrection' and 'Chaos,' and were well aware of what a commanding presence he is," Butters and Fazekas said alongside fellow EP Chris Dingess. "So when we were developing the character of Vernon Masters, we wrote it with him in mind. We just never thought we could actually get him. Thankfully, we were wrong."

Marvel Television head and EP Jeph Loeb admitted that he and his team are fans of Smith's previous roles on film and TV. He described Smith's role as "That type of range makes him a perfect addition to our cast for Peggy's second thrilling solo adventure."

Season 2 of "Marvel's Agent Carter" will now feature the return of Hayley Atwell as SSR (Strategic Scientific Reserve) member, Agent Peggy Carter. She will experience the Hollywood glamour as part of her "most dangerous" mission yet. From New York City, Peggy will have "to find out that the bright lights of the post-war Hollywood mask a more sinister threat to everyone she is sworn to protect."

Aside from Atwell, "Marvel's Agent Carter" Season 2 will also mark the return of James D'Arcy (Edwin Jarvis), Chad Michael Murray (Agent Jack Thompson) and Enver Gjokaj (Chief Daniel Sousa.)

Marvel's "Agent Carter" Season 2 will return during the midseason on ABC.
