"Grey's Anatomy" episode five "Guess Whos Coming to Dinner" saw Meredith serving and eating dinner with someone who broke hear heart into a million tiny pieces.
In the fifth installment of "Grey's Anatomy" season 12, Meredith opened the door to let Callie and her girlfriend Penny in into her home where Maggie and Amelia agreed to throw a dinner party. It can be recalled from the prior episode that Meredith, Maggie and Amelia decided to gather their friends and prepare a feast they can all partake. Meredith, however, did not expect that the fun get together they all envisioned would turn into a dinner from hell.
Callie introduced Penny, her new girlfriend, to Meredith who instantly recognized her as the doctor who Meredith is blaming for the death of Derek. She tried very hard to keep her composure and pretended that it is the first the time that she is meeting Penny. Things moved along with little incident until the topic of their conversation during dinner turned to Penny's occupation. She revealed that she too is a physician but does not share any more information. Blake then recognized her as Penelope Baker, the new resident doctor who just moved to their hospital. Meredith then burst out like an overflowing dam saying, "She was at Dillard. Dillard Medical Center....It's where Derek died. Isn't that right Penny?" Everyone was shocked and finally Meredith let out the dagger, "Perfect Penny killed my husband."
Meredith excused herself and left the dining room. Penny explained that she was indeed one of the doctors who treated Derek. But the first shots were already fired and there is no turning back as Amelia demanded that Penny tell them what really happened. Callie intervened and demanded they all stop ganging on Penny.
