'America's Got Talent' Season 11: Simon Cowell Joins the Show

Simon Cowell's fans have much reason to rejoice. Aside from his "X-Factor UK" and "Britain's Got Talent" gigs, the famous British judge has announced that he will be joining the eleventh season of "America's Got Talent" as well, Variety reports.

Known for his curt, often mean, one-liners, Cowell will be replacing Howard Stern in the judging panel. Stern has been a judge on "AGT" since its seventh season in 2012.

"What I love about this show is that it's open to absolutely anyone. America has some fantastic talent just waiting to be discovered, and I would like that talent to come to our show, including any dogs who can sing!" Cowell said in his official statement.

Aside from judging, he is also one of the show's creators and producers.

"Simon knows this format better than anyone and he's been producing the show with us since the beginning, so we're thrilled to have him step in front of the camera and take his rightful place at the head of the judges' panel," NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said, welcoming Cowell's sarcastic humor.

In an interview for Extra TV with Terri Seymour, Cowell joked, "You think because I'm a producer, I chose me?"

When the host responded, "Yes. You only choose you," the British producer simply laughed.

On a serious note, Cowell revealed that he has previously been offered to sit on "AGT's" judging panel, but he "couldn't do it." "When this came about this time, I thought, 'Gotta do it,'" he added.

Cowell rose to fame in America when he appeared on the first season of "American Idol" in 2002. He is also known to be the force behind some of the most talented discoveries in the music industry, including Il Divo, Leona Lewis, and One Direction.

Auditions for "AGT" season 11 are currently underway. The show returns on NBC in the summer of 2016.
