"Supergirl" Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot" will premiere on Monday, Oct. 26, at 8:30 p.m. on CBS.
According to Comicbook, the upcoming superhero series will focus on Clark Kent/Ka-El/Superman's cousin, 12-year-old Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist). Just like her famous cousin, she also took refuge on Earth when their home planet Krypton was destroyed. She took the name Kara Denvers and lived with a foster family for 12 years. She also had an adoptive sister named Alex (Chyler Leigh).
After living among the humans for years, Kara is now working as an assistant to media mogul Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) in National City. She is joined by IT geek Winn Schott (Jeremy Jordan) and the newly pirated art director James Olsen (Mehcad Brooks). However, it seems that she hides her powers forever. It was when her adoptive sister's superior from the secret agency, Hank Henshaw (David Harewood), has acquired her superhero powers to protect National City and its citizens from harm.
"Supergirl" Season 1 Episode 1 "Pilot" is directed by Glen Winter and written by Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg and Ali Adler.
In an interview with TV Line, EPs Greg Berlanti admitted that the use of CGI is already taking a toll on him and he considered "Supergirl" as a "much bigger" challenge than its predecessors. Berlanti, with the addition of Andrew Kreisberg, also works as a showrunner and executive producer of other ongoing DC-related TV series including "Arrow," "The Flash" and "Legends of Tomorrow."
"Every one of these shows has had a very steep and unforgiving learning curve. We've been incredibly proud and excited by the results and, hopefully, everyone out there will be, too," Berlanti said.
Berlanti said that Kara will still be vulnerable against various villains. It was also reported that Kara will have a better understanding of her superhero powers, and her origins.
The "Supergirl" showrunner shared his idea about the possible crossover among the ongoing TV adaptations of DC series. Unfortunately, Berlanti said there are no current plans for it as they haven't mentioned "Superman" in "Arrow" and "The Flash."
"Storytelling-wise, that would be something we'd have to overcome. We're just focused on getting this one launched and hope that it enjoys some of the same success... with the same quality and commitment of fans. And if all those things happen, who knows?" Berlanti said in his statement.
"Supergirl" airs every Monday on CBS.
