'Orange is the New Black' Star Laverne Cox To Play Dr. Frank-N-Furter In 'Rocky Horror Picture Show'

Fox is set for its new TV remake "Rocky Horror Picture Show" and the iconic role of Dr. Frank-n-Furte will be played by "Orange Is The New Black" star Laverne Cox. The network announced the casting of Cox last Wednesday, reported USA Today.

Cox will take on the iconic role of Dr. Frank-n-Furte who is "a sexually ambiguous, flirtatious, alien mad scientist." It was Tom Curry who played as the doctor in both the original Broadway show and the 1975 movie.

The "Rocky Horror Picture Show" is about sweethearts Janet Weiss and Brad Majors played by Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick in the original who got stuck in Dr. Frank-n-Furte's mansion after their car broke down. At the time that they got in his castle, he is set to hold a science convention wherein he will unveil Rocky Horror. Rocky Horror is described as a handsome man who is created in order to fulfil Frank's "pansexual desires," as explained by Daily Mail.

According to Daily Mail, Cox is the first transgender performer to ever receive an Emmy nomination. Cox plays as a transgender inmate Sophia Burset in Netflix's "Orange Is The New Black." She is also set for a starring role in a legal show pilot on CBS which is entitled, "Doubt." The show also stars Katherine Heigl and Steven Pasquale.

Celebrity Dirty Laundry shared that Cox is reportedly helping out the transgender community not to be afraid to be true to themselves and to the rest of the world. It has been said that her celebrity status helped a lot in helping the world change their view when it comes to dealing with and accepting transgenders.

Last Oct. 21, Cox shared the good news via Twitter saying, "I am so excited to be a part of #RockHorror legacy. #DontDreamItBeIt."

The Remake of the "Rocky Horror Picture Show" is set to debut in fall 2016.
