Apple Watch 2 Rumors: Release Date Set for May 2016; Features Include Waterproof Design, Time Travel & Independence from iPhone?

Better in so many ways -- that is how experts are expecting the next Apple Watch to be, which is reportedly scheduled for commercial release in 2016. Although no date has been set yet, several outlets have speculated as to when Apple will launch the Apple Watch 2.

Both TechRadar and Alphr reported that while possible release dates are in early 2016, rumors persist that Apple will unveil the Apple Watch 2 late next year.

The first generation Apple Watch was an innovative product from Apple, but much are left to be desired. That is why many are looking forward to its second edition as the first one had so many rooms for improvement.

Curtis Moldrich of Alphr wrote perhaps the most obvious modifications consumers want and are looking for in the Apple Watch 2.

"Apple's next wearable will need to be much faster and thinner, but it'll also need to be less reliant on the iPhone," Moldrich wrote.

If leaks are to be believed, the people working on the Apple Watch 2 is reportedly going that direction.

According to reports, the second generation of the Apple Watch will feature a new wireless chipset that will enable users to perform basic communication tasks without the need to pair the device with an iPhone. The same technology may also be used to locate lost Apple watches via Wi-Fi triangulation, according to Tech Radar.

A video camera functionality will also come with Apple Watch 2. With it, users can make and receive video calls unlike with its predecessor.

As the new Apple Watch 2 is rumored to have a Sports variant, bits from the rumor mill suggest that the new Apple Watch will feature an improved waterproofing capability, making it suitable to a vast range of outdoor activities.

However, those who are expecting a circular design or a slight change in appearance in the new Apple Watch will be disappointed. Another leak indicated that the Apple Watch 2 will still flaunt the similar screen size, shape and resolution as the first Apple Watch. However, inside sources have pointed out that the new Apple Watch will be thinner.

If Apple wants to make the Apple Watch 2 a game changer, they better do it quick as Huawei and Samsung pose a very serious threat with their own line of smartwatches.
