Haunted Houses: Top Properties Featured in Horror Movies; Are They Haunted in Real Life?

It's only a week before Halloween, and while everyone's looking for parties to attend or horror movies to watch, take a look back at some of the haunted houses featured in various horror movies. Check out horror movie locations from the classic "Exorcist," "The Others," and more.

Zimbio recently came up with a list of houses used in horror films, one of them being "The Others." The 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman featured the Stewart House in Northern Spain. While the house in the film seemed spooky and was inhabited by Kidman's family who didn't know they were already dead, the real mansion known as Palacio del Hornillos is actually a gorgeous sight in the picturesque community of Las Fraguas, Cantabria.

Another famous house from horror movies is the MacNeil House in the "Exorcist." According to the aforementioned site, the Washington, D.C. property was renovated numerous times before the film's production. However, according to the online publication, the house still gives off a spooky vibe.

Travel Channel has also come up with a list of famous properties from horror films, and it includes the church featured in the classic horror flick "Omen." According to the site, the scene from the film where a priest was impaled by a lightning conductor was shot at London's All Saints Church at Bishop's Park located on the banks of the River Thames. While the church showcases amazing architecture, its stigma associated with the horror movie gives it a rather spooky vibe.

The 1980s film "Rosemary's Baby," meanwhile, featured the Dakota, a Gothic building in New York City dubbed the Bramford in the horror film. In the movie, it is where the protagonists encounter satanic neighbors. In real life though, it was where the Beatles singer John Lennons' home was located, and where he was murdered and met his tragic end.
