President Barack Obama Spending Summer Vacation at Martha’s Vineyard with Family

Yeah, the leaders need a break too. U.S. President Barack Obama and his family are headed to Martha's Vineyard to spend a week in a plush property called the "Chilmark House". The vacation starts August 10 and will last for eight days.

According to the Daily Mail, the first family of America usually travels to the Massachusetts Island for most of its summer vacations. However, since they were busy with the presidential election campaigns in 2012, they didn't travel anywhere.

The family has been vacationing in the Chilmark House since 2009. The President has confirmed that they will be going to their favorite vacation venue this time again. The home is located in Chilmark, the wealthiest town of Martha's Vineyard. They will have actors Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen for neighbors.

The Chilmark House was built in 1961. The six bedroom residence was given a complete makeover in 2006 by architect, Rick Sundberg of Sundberg Kennedy Ly-Au Young Architects. The residence is a large contemporary home, elegant enough to house the presidential family. Sitting on a large 9.5 acre lot, the industrial looking home has a stone and glass facade and provides scenic views of the ocean and the rural landscape, reports Business Insider.

Interiors of the home feature an open plan, beautiful furnishings and a perfect blend of modernism and comfort. Outside, the home has a basketball court and ample recreation areas.

According to the home's official website:

The choice of materials reflect both a modern sensibility and the architectural traditions of the Northeast in general and the island in particular, with gray-toned wood shingles, metal, stone, and concrete in evidence. A huge glacial erratic, or boulder dropped by an ancient retreating glacier, was left in place and now rests near the front entrance-a marker to guide visitors into the welcoming compound and further ground the home in its natural surroundings.

Chilmark House has been featured in numerous publications, including the book Martha's Vineyard: Contemporary Living by Keith Moskow and Robert Linn, published in 2010 by The Monacelli Press.

Before the Obama Family found the Chilmark House, they lived at the Blue Heron Farm, a 28.5 acre compound in Martha's Vineyard. That property was sold in 2011 to a famous British architect for $22 million.

The President is apparently looking forward to this well deserved vacation. However, since a "president is never really on a vacation" he will continuously be updated about the Al Qaida terror threats that forced the government to shut down 20 embassies across the world.

"The president very much looks forward to being able to spend a few days with his family, It also remains the case that wherever he is, he's president of the United States and will be dedicating a portion of his day to being briefed and working on all the issues that are on the table in front of him," Jay Carney, press secretary of the White House said to Boston.com.

Martha's Vineyard has been a favorite with the democratic presidents of America. Former president, Bill Clinton also vacationed on the island quite a few times, reports Yahoo.
