Last Sunday's "Sister Wives" episode was an emotional moment for Kody Brown and his family. Entitled "A Judge's Decision," the episode followed the entire Brown family as they were nervously waiting for the judge's decision about their patriarch Kody's request to adopt Aurora, Breanna, and Dayton--his fourth wife Robyn's children from her first marriage.
Kody's worries were not without merits, as he knew that their unconventional living situation could be a hindrance to the judge's affirmative decision.
"I'm worried that plural marriage is something [the judge] won't get over," he admitted at one point.
In the on-cam interviews, the children expressed their eagerness to be legally part of the Brown family. Dayton, 15, said, "I've always felt like I'm part of the family and I want to be with dad [Kody] even closer. My mom loved him and I love him, too. I feel happy to be around him."
When the day of the hearing came, all 17 of the Brown children and the sister wives came to the courtroom, dressed in their Sunday best. Everyone held their breaths as the judge gave his decision.
"Congratulations," the judge said, as everyone burst into tears.
Adopting the three children has been an important storyline since last season. On the season 5 finale, Meri, the first wife, even agreed to legally divorce Kody so he could marry Robyn to begin the adoption process. It can be noted that Meri was the only legal wife; Kody's marriages to Janelle, Christine, and Robyn were only "spiritual unions."
This heart-warming, selfless act of Meri allowed the three children to have a more secure future.
"This is what it was all about - it was all about the kids. It's not about me. It was definitely worth it," Meri said on the episode.
After the airing, Meri shared her happiness with her followers on Twitter. "The adoption of the kids was the whole point of the legal divorce. I would do it again for my family," she wrote.

Meanwhile, according to IB Times' spoilers for the next episode, the Browns will throw a party to celebrate this latest development in their family. Entitled "Chaos In The Cul-De-Sac," the party will turn into a messy celebration and lead to unforeseen tension between Kody and the wives.
