'Sister Wives' News: Meri Brown's Scammer Arrested

"Sister Wives" has been getting a lot of controversial news lately, and not just because of its polygamous storyline. Last month, first wife Meri Brown shockingly admitted to having an emotional affair with a businessman named Sam Cooper, who turned out to be a female con-artist named Jackie Overton. Overton was finally arrested in Osage County last Friday, Oct. 23, as reported by Starcasm.

However, the arrest was only for outstanding traffic warrants, and not due to Brown's fraud allegations. The scammer finally bailed not long after the arrest.

Meri legally divorced the "Sister Wives" patriarch Kody Brown last year to give way to fourth wife Robyn. Kody needed to legally marry Robyn so he could adopt her three children from her first marriage and protect them from their biological father. While fans applauded Meri's selfless act, many wondered if she felt isolated and left out and thus, started her affair.

According to All About Tea, Meri's affair began with innocent social media exchanges with Overton, who was using the alias "Sam Cooper." The con artist was pretending to be a 40-year-old businessman and was offering business opportunities to the sister wife. Upon learning the truth, Meri exposed Overton, which only resulted to more problems for the Brown family. Overton, using multiple social media accounts, posted provocative pictures Meri allegedly sent, confirming their scandalous affair.

As Overton is still on the loose, Meri took to Twitter and posted a scripture verse seemingly pertaining to her troubles.

"Put on the full armor of God so you can take your stand against the devil's schemes," she quoted Ephesians 6:11.

Neither Kody nor any of the sister wives has addressed the issue. This latest controversy has not yet been featured on "Sister Wives," which is currently on its sixth season. The reality show airs Sundays, 9 p.m. on TLC.
