Celebrity Real Estate: Musician Aaron Dessner Wants $2.35M for Ditmas Park House

The six-bedroom Ditmas Park House of musician Aaron Dessner is listed on the market for $2.35 million. The house has been converted into a music studio and has heating and cooling, oak floors and skylights. Dessner is a talented multi-instrumentalist who's best known as being one-fifth of Brooklyn indie-rockers, the National.

According to Curbed news, Dessner and the band recorded its 2010 album 'High Violet' in this house. He also worked with artists like Sharon Van Etten and Local Natives in the house. The place is currently configured as a two-family home, with a separate apartment on the second level (rented by the National's lead singer, Matt Berninger). Aside from the studio, the property also has a spacious backyard, lots of storage spaces, and a wrap-around porch.

Dessner, who bought the house in 2003 for $700,000, shares the first floor with his girlfriend, Stine, and rents the top two floors out to Matt Berninger, the National's lead singer. "It's the largest urban Victorian neighborhood in the country," Dessner says of the 2,800-square-foot, three-story, two-family house where he's lived for seven years.

Though Dessner is only taking up a single floor, his one-bedroom pad is quite spacious - with a double-size living room, a dining room and a large kitchen. His bedroom overlooks the deck and a suburban-size backyard that houses the music studio where his band recorded their fifth album, "High Violet."

New York Post said that Dessner did most of the renovation of the house himself. "All the ceilings were this weird stuff from the '60s that turns into dust when you start pulling it down," he says. "I think I inhaled a lot of that and all kinds of stuff when I was doing the floors."

After all of that hard labor, he now reaps the benefits. "I could never afford to buy a house like this now," Dessner says. "It's now worth double [than] what he paid for it."
