Updated Renderings of Amazon’s Proposed Seattle Headquarters Revealed (VIDEO)

Amazon, the retailing giant has tweaked plans of its proposed headquarters in Seattle City and updated its renderings. The new plan will be presented to the Seattle Department of Planning and Development (SDPD) this week, according to several news reports.

Amazon had first released renderings of its brand new headquarters sometime back in May 2013. The initial plans included building a 3.3 million square feet campus in downtown Seattle. The most striking feature of the construction was three huge glass bio-domes that will cover three blocks. The three intersecting spheres will each have interior space of 65,000 square feet and will adapt a greenhouse-like habitat. The domes would be made of multiple layers of glass and would give the employees an environment favorable for both work and relaxing.

However, when the plans were inspected by the SDPD, the department thought that the height of the domes was too high and would cut off sunlight to the nearby park and also didn't have enough retail space. Moreover, Amazon was also not too happy with the outer design of the dome. Therefore, the plan was sent back to the architects who altered the plans just a little bit, reports Gizmag.

The new plans now have a reduced dome height, and sport a "catalan sphere" structure from the initial diamond-shaped support structure on the domes exteriors. Now, the spheres look like enlarges alien cells mating with one another. The domes will be surrounded by three 38-floor office buildings.

Amazon's headquarters is just the tip of the ice-berg. Major companies have already jumped into a battle of building the most-elaborate headquarters. While Apple is getting a "Space-ship" shaped building, Facebook is also getting its Menlo Park headoffice redesigned by startchitect, Frank Gehry.
