'Super Mario Maker' Software Update: New Features Include Checkpoint Flags, Smarter Power-Up Blocks & New Courses

"Super Mario Maker" is the side-scrolling platform game construction system and video game, developed and published by Nintendo for the Wii U video game console and it is getting a software update in November.

According to Polygon, this Wii U-exclusive game that was released only last Sept. 11 will received some welcome new features, including the ability to add checkpoint flags to your levels from the update. Moreover, with the updated software, official "Super Mario Maker" courses produced by Nintendo developers will be easier to find.

The "Super Mario Maker" software update will be available starting Nov. 4 and will add smarter power-up blocks. Players will then have the option to place super mushrooms and fire flowers into the same question block, giving "Super Mario Maker" properties that feel like the real "Super Mario Bros."

More details of the Nov. 4 update can be found in Nintendo's official site. As indicated in the website, the update will introduce "Event Courses in the game's Course World online hub. Event Courses will feature levels from partner creators outside Nintendo."

"One of the first Event Courses will be 'Ship Love,' the winning level from the 'hackathon' event that was held at Facebook's headquarters in Menlo Park earlier this year. Facebook is the first outside partner in the United States to design a level for 'Super Mario Maker;' employees had the opportunity to design and present their creations to a panel of judges before the winning level was selected."

The update, according to Nintendo, will also feature the level seen during the final round of the Omegathon at the 2015 Penny Arcade Expo. New event courses will be added on a regular basis and some may contain new Mystery Mushroom transformation.

After the update, there will be a new Official Makers section in Course World and this is where specially selected courses including those from Nintendo will be featured.
