Twitter has been the source of news, movements, petitions, opinions and jokes in the modern day world. However, with it losing behind Facebook, it has to have more users. To get the users they wanted, the social media giant is turning to TV.
The social media company is launching an 'integrated marketing campaign' in the United States during its third quarter earnings call. They will commence with TV ads during the first game of the World Series tonight. The ad is created by the same agency that was responsible for Apple's iconic 1984 spot for Macintosh, TBWAChiatDay, according to The Verge.
Wired posted that "the ad itself includes tweets from the MLB's playoff games as seen in Twitter's new Moments feature, the company's latest initiative to make Twitter more accessible to new users. When asked today about spending money on TV ads during a major sporting event, Twitter Chief Financial Officer Anthony Noto said that the company is keen on investing in its future."
It has been reported that Twitter has not yet added many users since Jack Dorsey became the new CEO. It only managed to rake up to 3 million users over the period of three quarters, which is up 8% from the number of users in the previous year.
While Twitter has recently said that it now has 320 million users, most of these users come from outside of US. These are some of the reasons that will cause investors to doubt the growth of Twitter. Dorsey will have to convince them as what the company's chief financial officer Anthony Noto said on the last earnings call, that user growth will come, even if it they don't seem to be flocking to Twitter just yet.
The company is indeed in high hopes in multiplying the number of their users with the idea of a TV ad. The answer will come after people have seen the ad.
Are you on Twitter? What do you think of it?
