Jaymi Naciri updates the readers through her article in Realty Times that tiny homes, which were then mere head-scratching novelty, are now becoming a trend and shows no sign of slowing.
Construction DIVE says, "Why all the fuss about tiny homes? While some expected them to be a passing fad, they have proven themselves to be a popular alternative to the rising prices of mega houses." The U.S. News, on the other hand, attributes the rising popularity of tiny homes to this factor: "For some, the tiny house movement has become a way of life, adjusting to a smaller space and fewer possessions, with a goal of saving money and focusing on relationships and experiences."
Naciri breaks down the possible reasons why you would also want to live in a tiny home.
1. You want flexibility.
J.H. Fearless of Custom Made says that as most of these tiny homes are built on wheels, this makes it convenient for you to transfer at any given time. According to U.S. News, "Building codes in most municipalities set a minimum size for dwellings. Some tiny houses on wheels function as RVs, but most areas also ban full-time RV living outside of an RV park. This is the biggest obstacle for most people. You might be able to build a cottage as an accessory unit on a lot with a larger home or in a rural area with a liberal zoning code. Or, you might need to build it on wheels and keep it in an RV park. People should really know where they're going to keep it before they build it."
2. You are super organized.
Piling up your laundry or having papers scattered in your entire house just won't work in a small home. U.S. News adds, "Living in a small space requires you to rethink your entire relationship with stuff."
3. You want financial freedom.
Even if you can't pay off a mortgage in a traditional home, it is typical to own a tiny house outright which, according to Construction DIVE, can vary from $35,000 to $55,000 (and even more for a high-end custom build).
4. You want to save.
It is established that less space means less upkeep, less maintenance, and less overhead. It will really be something if your electricity will significantly go down as a smaller place means less lighting, heating and cooling. You can achieve a lower cost for your bill by including green features and building/situating your home to make use of passive solar techniques.
