On "The Walking Dead" Season 6, Episode 3 entitled “Thank You,” fans were surprised when Glenn (Steven Yeun) died as walkers surround him. Glenn is a fan favorite which is the reason why most viewers were either sad or angry about his death.
Glenn is one of the few remaining characters who have been on the show since season 1, alongside Andrew Lincoln, Chandler Riggs, and Steven Yeun (Rick and Carl respectively) who already did 83 episodes. Meanwhile, Norman Reedus has a credit of 81 episodes. To recall, Glenn is the pizza delivery boy who was turned into a zombie-slayer but remained dependable, humble and honorable.
In the jaw-dropping episode 3, Glenn and Nicholas were trapped by walkers while on top of a dumpster. Nicholas put a bullet on his own head while feeling dazed. He felt hopeless as he scanned the walkers around them then looked at Glenn and said “Thank you.” The body of Nicholas fell as Glenn stumbled with him to the ground and was engulfed by walkers, which made viewers think that Glenn died.
But with a close up of the scene, it appears like the walkers were ripping intestines from his chest which indicates that it was Nicholas' body that the walkers are feasting and not that of Glenn's. Nicholas's flesh could cover Glenn's body and would allow him to slide under the dumpster, Celeb Dirty Laundry noted.
Show runner Scott Gimple released a statement about Glenn's death saying, “In some way we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn, or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback or in the current story, to help complete the story.”
The statement explains why Yeun has been on the set every day and was also photographed with Tom Payne who plays Paul or also known as Jesus in the show.
Meanwhile, show runner Scott M.Gimple remained quiet about the scene that shocked many viewers. When asked if Glenn is dead, he said with a laugh, "I’m not going to answer it." Gimple also revealed that fans will not wait long to get a definitive answer about Glenn's fate. He said it would be at the "first half of the season and there are only five episodes left," TV Line reported.
