Blackberry Priv Apps: Google Play Releases New Apps Ahead Of Launch Date

A new report surfaced on Thursday saying that Google Play has released this week stock apps that are compatible with Blackberry Priv. The stock apps were released by the company ahead of the phone's  official release date on Nov. 6, a report from iDigital Times said.

Listed below are some of the stock apps published by Blackberry via Google Play, according to Crackberry.

  • "BlackBerry Launcher - this app will eventually help users navigate both the email and other contacts.
  • BlackBerry Keyboard- the app will help user's navigate the physical and virtual keyboard via a touchscreen.
  • BlackBerry Camera-features special frames exclusively for the phone's dual flash Schneider-Kreuznach camera.
  • DTEK by BlackBerry- this app will allow users to track both privacy and security settings like information collected by the phone using the camera, microphone, location and pother personal details.
  • BlackBerry Services
  • Password Keeper"

"Keep in mind that none of these are actually installable yet, as the Priv isn't yet available. However, with the apps broken out instead of being completely embedded at the system level, BlackBerry will be free to issue updates when necessary rather than waiting for device updates. Also, this is a potential win for other Android devices as well, as we may eventually see the BlackBerry Launcher or Keyboard available for other smartphones," the report noted.

According to iDigital Times, the recently released stock apps will create "momentum" for the Blackberry's new flagship Android smartphone.

"Priv will give Blackberry lovers some much needed fun adding Google Play apps to the business phone. Additional specs for the Blackberry Priv include a 5.4-inch dual-curved screen. The phone offers decent storage at 32GB. The 3410 mAh battery offers up to 22.5 hours of energy. The battery was among leaked specs. Other specs include a physical slide out keyboard," the report said.

"BlackBerry pushing its apps to the Play Store means that it will be able to quickly provide updates to its individual apps rather than having to push an entire over-the-air software update to the device to update one app. Other Android manufacturers like HTC and Motorola have also taken a similar approach," 9to5google reports.
