Samsung looks to start 2016 with a bang.
Forbes.com reports that the Korea-based smartphone manufacturer plans to release three variants of the Samsung Galaxy S7 simultaneously. This news came at the heels of the brand's total overhaul of the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note.
The news came from SamMobile, and the report indicates that Samsung will release Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge and Galaxy S7 Edge+ handsets early next year.
The early simultaneous launch, expected to be held in January 2016, as reported by CNet.com, is seen as a move to pit the Galaxy S7 with Apple's iPhone 6 and ramp up the competition for the biggest slice of the high-end smartphone consumer demographic. The slated three-product unveiling event will allow Samsung to build a sizable lead before Apple releases the iPhone 7 on the third quarter next year.
Samsung has suffered its seventh straight month of declining sales last July, though the company is expecting huge growth by the end of October. With poor sales for the most part of 2015, Samsung looks to revive sales next year.
Samsung has reportedly finalized the designs for the Galaxy 7 on September this year and is gathering the components before entering the production phase.
While there is logic with the multiple model release, Gordon Kelly of Forbes saw some issues with Samsung's plan, as that would mean a new and better version of the Galaxy S6 Edge+ is coming off the production line within six months after its launch.
"That sends a worrying message to owners of existing premium Samsung handsets that there's no good time to buy a Samsung phone: it could be upgraded at any time," he said.
Kelly also lamented that a simultaneous release for Samsung doesn't suit the company's move to split its flagship smartphone model into different variants.
In contrast, Collins see the strategy as an effort to give the Galaxy S7 the best possible chance of cutting the sales of Apple by providing consumers its most advanced top-tier phone to date sooner rather than later.
