Another celebrity 'childhood' memorabilia has hit the market. According to several news reports, the 'Slim Shady' hitmaker Eminem's childhood home on Dresden Street, Detroit, will be auctioned off through September 26. Bids start at a meagre $1.
While Eminem fans can rejoice now, a lot of people might find the minimum bid price a little suspicious. Apparently, the neighbourhood in which Eminem's childhood home is located is not doing very well. Several other parcels are also being auctioned off by the Michigan Land Bank - which operates by selling off delinquent properties, reports Curbed.
The residence might be getting a lot of fame now but a few months back, not a soul knew it was the star rapper's childhood home.
"In a case like this, if the property is blighted, or the whole neighborhood is blighted, it would be unusual to get a buyer. Nobody knew it was Eminem's home, either," Kim Homan, Executive Director of Michigan Land Bank, said to USA Today.
Though you can start your bids at $1, you must pay a $500 deposit to register for the online auction. While bids on the residences started September 5, it will be on until September 26 and one of the lucky fans might just snag the place. Some terms and conditions apply.
The official government website reads:

According to USA Today, public records reveal that the home is a 767 square feet residence that Eminem's mother, Deborah Mathers, purchased in 1997 for about $19,900. The property reportedly traded ownership ten times before the 'Wayne County Treasurer's Office' foreclosed on the home in 2001 for non-payment of taxes. Zillow estimates the home's worth to be something around $32,675.
Bonus Fact The home was also featured on the cover of Eminem's 2000 album "The Marshal Mathers LP"
