‘Ant-Man’ Hits $500M—Paul Rudd Saves the Day, Ready for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp'!

"Ant-Man" is making its bite counts as the film hits the $500M mark gross earnings worldwide.

The movie, led by Paul Rudd, garnered $179 million earnings domestically and $319.5 million from international viewers, reported Variety. Out of nine of Marvel Cinematic Film releases, it is the seventh consecutive movie to cross $500 million gross income. On it's opening in the United States last July alone, it earned $57.2 million.

Speaking of international viewers, "Ant-Man" is considered to be the second biggest three-day opening in the China territory, which is also the top foreign market for the said film, the report added.

The success of the movie, boosted by international market, is great news for Marvel. Behind the scenes, nothing much was expected from the movie. According to a report done by Screenrant, "Ant-Man" represented risks for Marvel Comics. Even before the production of the film, there was a buzz about creative differences between Marvel and original writer/director Edgar Wright. Fortunately, Peyton Tucker Reed stepped in at the last minute and crafted a super fun superhero, which viewers, children and adult alike enjoyed and appreciated.

Despite its accomplishment, "Ant-Man" still cannot be considered the most successful Marvel movie and yet, if compared with other releases such as "The Incredible Hulk," and the first "Captain America" and "Thor" movies, "Ant-Man," when looking at global statistics, actually performed and is still performing better.

The global rave about the movie is not only good for Marvel but for Walt Disney Pictures as well. To date, it is the fourth release of Disney this year to hit $500 million worldwide, which is no small feat.

Owing to the movie's success, a sequel titled "Ant-Man and the Wasp" is scheduled for release in July 2018. As early as now, fans and the brains behind the film are already anticipating if the second installment will be as successful or if it will result to higher grosses.
