It's Halloween once again-one of children and adults' favorite celebration because everyone can dress up without inhibitions and judgments. It is a tradition where one can be anybody for a day.
For a bit of history, Halloween dates back to Ancient Celtic Festival 2,000 years ago. It is not a mere-dress up or pumpkin cutting. According to History, "Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. In the eighth century, Pope Gregory III designated November 1 as a time to honor all saints and martyrs; the holiday, All Saints' Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows' Eve and later Halloween."
Everybody wants to be up and about during the festivity, however, for one reason or another, not everyone would be able to. There is no need to worry, here is a compilation of child-friendly Halloween films kids can enjoy, without them being traumatized in the process, courtesy of Hollywood Reporter. It will certainly help make them forget missing calling out Trick or Treat! Another upside? No sugar overload! Enjoy!
Arachnaphobia (1990, starring Jeff Daniels and John Goodman) - After watching the movie, you will surely check behind the shower curtain and be hesitant to venture into a cold, damp cellar alone.
Bettlejuice (1988, starring Alec Baldwin, Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder and Geena Davis)-Dare to say his name three times and you might just feel the Candyman breathing down your neck.
Coraline (2009)-It's a story of a young girl living in a dark fantasy world, voiced over by Dakota Fanning.
The Corpse Bride-(2005, featuring the voices of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter). It is about an unventional couple that defies death to fight for a good relationship. Whoever said love dies anyway?
Frankenweenie-(2012) This is another movie defying death, but this time, for love of a pet. It is a good way to teach children about the power of love at a young age.
Ghostbusters-(1984, starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykrody, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson). It is classy as it is entertaining.
Gremlins-(1984, starring Zach Gilligan, Phoebe Cates, Howie Mandel and Corey Feldman). These little creatures cannot be fed after midnight, must be kept from bright lights and never, as in never, get them wet.
Hocus Pocus (1993, starring Bette Medler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy)-Witchcraft at its best, which sort of reminds children about the magical world of Harry Potter although with a different spin altogether.
Hotel Transylvania (2012, voice over by Adam Sandler as Dracula, Selena Gomez as Mavis, and Andy Samberg as the human being)-a modern twist of vampire story kids can easily relate to.
Little Monsters (1989, starring Fred Savage) -Yes, there is a door of monster somewhere and it may just be under one's bed.
