Kurt Cobain’s Childhood Home Up for Sale at $500,000

September marks the 20th anniversary of grunge band 'Nirvana's' last studio album and the legendary late frontman of the band, Kurt Cobain's childhood home in Aberdeen, Washington, has hit the listing market. Cobain's family is selling the home for $500,000, which comes with some Cobain memorabilia as well, according to several media reports.

Apparently Cobain lived in the home from when he was about two years old until nine and came to live there again from 16 to 20 years of age. Cobain's sister Kim Cobain wrote in an emailed statement that their parents purchased the home sometime in 1969 for $7950.

"We've decided to sell the home to create a legacy for Kurt, and yes, there are some mixed feelings since we have all loved the home and it carries so many great memories. But our family has moved on from Washington, and (we) feel it's time to let go of the home," her statement read.

Wendy O. Connor, Cobain's mother is the official seller of the house. They are also open to options of converting the home into a museum, reports Forbes.

While its current assessed value is about $67,000, the 1522 square feet home is asking a much higher price.

That should not deter Cobain fans from purchasing the place. The property, which is being marketed by The Agency, a popular real estate firm, has a lot of rock history to offer, reports Zillow. A family friend last lived in the home four years ago.

According to The Agency:

"The home is still largely preserved, with many belongings of Kurt's still in place. There are even marks and drawings on the walls made by Kurt, and pieces of original furniture including family dining table/hutch, Kurt's childhood mattress, the rug in his room and more. The home is an amazing look into Kurt's past, as everything is still more or less preserved and captures his early years that led to his legendary career."

What's more?

The garage is where Cobain and Krist Novoselic practiced in the late 1980s. The wall of Cobain's bedroom has a hole, apparently Cobain's fist connected with it! Cobain once scrawled "I Hate Mom. I Hate dad" on one of the walls of his bedroom as his parents squabbled often. His childhood was mostly happy but his parents' divorce was emotionally taxing for him.

"It's a place where he had very fond memories, but it's the house where his parents got divorced. He couldn't wait to get away, but it's a place that helped shape who he became," Charles R. Cross, the man who wrote Cobain's biography, said in an interview with Billboard.com.

A heroin-addicted Cobain committed suicide in 1994, shooting himself in the head. He was one of the stars to have passed away too soon making him a member of the "27 Club", which includes musicians who passed away at 27 like Jim Morrison, Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse.
