‘Power Rangers’ Update: Becky G. Is Yellow Ranger in Movie Reboot

"Empire" actress and singer Becky G completes the cast of the "Power Rangers" movie reboot.

Variety reported that Becky G, whose real name is Rebecca Marie Gomez, widens her acting resume as the Yellow Ranger of the upcoming movie reboot in 2017.

The outlet reported that Lionsgate made the announcement online by posting a photo of Becky G on Twitter. "Becky G is going to be bringing the action as the ‪#‎YellowRanger‬ in the Power Rangers Movie! Let the countdown to 2017 begin," the caption reads.

Becky G's casting is the fifth one made by the film along with other four actors as she wears the yellow-colored superhero suit. Collider previously reported that the character names will be different from the original storyline and this time, Becky G's "Yellow Ranger" will be renamed as Teyana Jones/Sabre Tooth Tiger.

The original female "Yellow Ranger" or Trini Kwan was played by Vietnamese-American Thuy Trang in the FOX TV series. It was also played by Aisha Campbell in the movie version. According to Power Rangers Wikia, the "Yellow Ranger" character is described as the "level-headed," one who boosts the morale of her teammates.

The 2017 "Power Rangers" movie will be the second film adaptation after the 1995 movie, "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie." The movie reboot will revolve around the origins of the superhero group called the "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers." The group consists of five young individuals who were given "extraterrestrial powers," which will be used to save the world.

Becky G, the movie's latest addition, was first known as a member of two all-girls groups, G.L.A.M, and BCG before she went solo in 2011. Then, she made a name as a cover artist on YouTube. She was discovered by Dr. Luke because of her cover version of Jay-Z and Kanye West's "Otis" and the rest was history. Her recent hit single includes "Play It Again," "Can't Get Enough," "Shower" and "Can't Stop Dancing."

Becky G eventually transitioned to acting. She currently plays the role of Valentina Galindo, a recurring character in the Season 2 of FOX's "Empire."

Directed by Dean Israelite ("Project Almanac"), the "Power Rangers" movie reboot is written by "Thor" screenwriters Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. It is produced by Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur under Saban Entertainment. The film stars Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), R.J. Cyler (Blue Ranger) and Becky G as Yellow Ranger.

"Power Rangers" movie reboot will be released on Jan. 13, 2017.
