‘Gotham’ Season 2 Cast Update: Meet Hugo Strange and Mr. Freeze's Wife

Two new characters will be introduced in "Gotham" Season 2. The DC series has tapped B.D. Wong and Kristen Hager as Hugo Strange and Nora Fries, respectively.

According to Comicbook.com, EB Wong will take on the role of Hugo Strange, a well-known villain in the "Batman" universe. The profession of Wong's character as a psychiatrist was the reason why he was asked to lead Arkham Asylum and the Indian Hill facility. It is a top-secret laboratory in Gotham City, which was previously highlighted in the TV series as the place where Firefly died.

The psychiatrist "appears altruistic, but he harbors a dark secret," FOX told the outlet. It was said that it made Strange as "Gotham's greatest threat."

In the comic book series, Marvel described him as a person who is obsessed on beating Batman. When he found out about Batman's real identity, he began making his own army called the "Monster Men." Strange first appeared in "Detective Comics" Issue #36, which was published on Feb. 1940. He was introduced ahead of Batman's archenemy, Joker.

Wong was last seen as the villain Dr. Henry Wu in "Jurassic World." His TV appearances include his role as White Rose in "Mr. Robot" and as Buzz in the TV movie "The Normal Heart."

Meanwhile, Kristen Hager will play as Nora Fries, the wife of Victor Fries AKA Mr. Freeze. In the interview with Zap2It, it was reported that Nora's "smarts, sincerity and a lighthearted sensibility" helped in having an emotional connection with Victor.

"As her condition worsens and her husband becomes more desperate to save her life, Nora must make the ultimate choice: play the willing participant in Victor's mad plan or sacrifice herself to stop the monster inside of him," the report said.

She was diagnosed with a terminal illness shortly after she married him. Nora was then frozen in a cryogenic state while Victor looked for a cure. However, Victor failed his quest and had a mishap in the laboratory, which turned him into the supervillain Mr. Freeze.

Hager appeared in various films such as "Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem," "Wanted," and "Sorority Wars." She was last seen as a series regular in the 2014 series "Being Human."

"Gotham" airs every Monday at 8 p.m. on FOX.
