Rumor has it that the risqué costumes in "Xenoblade Chronicles X" is being censored by its publisher, Nintendo.
To back up this claim, a certain user @_teikage has taken to Twitter to reveal two different sets of costumes for Lin, the 13-year-old character in the Japanese version of "Xenoblade Chronicles X." In the EU version, Lin is allegedly portrayed as a 15-year-old girl, two years older than its Japanese version. @_teikage has tweeted twice about these costumes.
Based on the tweets, it can be seen that Lin dons a very revealing black and silver costumes for the Japanese version of "Xenoblade Chronicles X." On the other hand, it is obvious that the costumes for the Western version of the game are very much different, more conservative, not to mention the fact that Lin is older. There seems to be no other tweets to suggest that other characters have been censored as well.
According to Game Rant, the censorship is obviously because of cultural differences with respect to the sexualization of young female characters. Lin's costume may be viewed as very inappropriate for the western "Xenoblade Chronicles X" audience.
Lin is a playable protagonist within "Xenoblade Chronicles X" and she is a member of the hero's party. According to Game Rant, her character includes unlockable costumes which are dubbed as "Sci-fi bikinis." These bikinis might be too revealing and considered unacceptable for 13-year-old girls, therefore it would not be a surprise if these unlockable costumes will not be part of the Western version of "Xenoblade Chronicles X."
"Xenoblade Chronicles X" was released in April 2015 exclusively for Wii U.
A series of tweets by user Teigake (via NeoGAF), reveal a set of costumes more appropriate for Lin, a 13-year-old character in the Japanese version of the game. Lin is allegedly supposed to be 15 years old in the western release.
