The production of the long-awaited sequel to the blockbuster movie "World War Z" which stars Brad Pitt is up and running again after producers found a new writer.
The zombie thriller "World War Z" is moving forward with its heavily anticipated second movie. Pitt will still headline the film which became a massive hit in 2013. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie has found itself a new writer to complete the project in the guise of Dennis Kelly. Kelly is the creator of "Utopia," the British show currently making a buzz among viewers. He is set to write the latest draft for the sequel which was first written by Steven Knight, the writer for the Bradley Cooper film "Burnt."
Director J.A. Bayona is expected to helm the movie production but there have been reports that he is also being asked to direct the follow-up to another hit movie "Jurassic World." Bayona has an existing contract to do the "World War Z" sequel and is likely to honor it but the offer to do "Jurassic World 2" has paved the way for Paramount to find a new writer and give the kind of writing style suited to Bayona's liking.
The production of the original "World War Z" was a tumultuous one. Marc Forster directed the film which had many scenes that needed to be reshot after initial screening for test audience was received poorly with many complaints about the third act. Despite all the difficulties though, the movie earned a whopping $540 million worldwide which set the stage for a sequel. The trio of Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof wrote the script for the first film but onscreen credit went to J. Michael Straczynski.
According to Variety, Kelly, the latest writer drafted for the "World War Z 2" script also wrote "The Pulling" for BBC Three and co-wrote "Matilda the Musical."
