The TV adaptation of Stephen King's novel starring James Franco will premiere next year on Hulu.
According to Variety, the limited mini-series will air during the Presidents Day on Feb. 15, 2016.
"11.22.63" is based on Stephen King's 2011 novel of the same name. It follows Jake Epping (James Franco) and his time travelling journey. He is a high school teacher who travels back to the era when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Jake will try to intervene and save JFK. However, he then learns about the dire consequences behind his brave attempt.
According to the outlet, "Last King of Scotland" and "State of Play" director Kevin Macdonald will be the director and executive producer of the first two hour-long episodes. J.J. Abrams, Stephen King, Bridget Carpenter and Bryan Burk will also act as the executive producers.
The nine-hour limited event series will be released weekly starting on its premiere, which is similar to Hulu's previous original script series. The outlet also reported that the mini-series will be available to exclusive Hulu members who are on the $7.99 monthly plan with ads or the $11.99 commercial-free option.
Executive producer Bridget Carpenter told Entertainment Weekly about the writers' painstaking experience while researching for more details about the era.
"It's a yarn but it needs to be seeded in the truth and the reality of the time," Carpenter said.
Carpenter also said that they scourged Lee Harvey Oswald's archives in the Dallas' Sixth Floor Museum in order to capture the period's feel. She added that people longed for the "optimistic" version of their country during Kennedy's presidency.
Meanwhile, the "Spiderman" franchise actor felt really immersed in the detailed production design of the mini-series.
"Playing a time traveler is like being an actor," Franco said. "You have to go to a different time and place and fit in."
The "11.22.63" mini-series stars Franco, Chris Cooper, Josh Duhamel, T.R. Knight, Cherry Jones, Sarah Gadon, Lucy Fry, George MacKay and Daniel Webber.
