"Ash vs. Evil Dead" is finally here and Bruce Campbell is back as Ash, the demon-fighting hero from cult films "Army of Darkness" and "Evil Dead II."
Campbell is back after more than two decades in the starring role of Ash, the chainsaw-wielding one man-army slayer of evil creatures called Deadites. According to IGN, Starz has made a commitment to produce at least 10 episodes of "Ash vs. Evil Dead" and it has brought back Sam Raimi as director as well. This means fans of the original films will be treated to the same horror and goofiness that the franchise is best remembered for.
However, in the same report by IGN, the television series version will give old and new fans alike a much better view and understanding of who Ash is as an individual away from his character as demon slayer. This basically means that the show will be the same yet very different at the same time. The story is simple and very straightforward. With Campbell on-board, Ash is now an old man who lives in a trailer park. He works at Valuestop and true to his character, likes to spend his time off hitting on drunken women in bars. He will have a sidekick named Pablo who is smitten by his co-worker Kelly.
Another character is introduced although it is still unclear what role she will play in the fight of Ash against the Deadites. Actress Jill Marie Jones plays a State trooper who clashes with the Deadites. She has her own theories regarding the evil menace and it will probably take a couple of episodes for her character to align with the story of Ash.
In a report by Rolling Stone, Raimi's hand in the series as director is hailed by critics as the secret ingredient to the horror-comedy recipe that "Ash vs. Evil Dead" is cooking up.
