'Fallout 4': When Did Bethesda Actually Begin Development for the Latest 'Fallout' Game

In less than two weeks "Fallout 4," one of the most highly anticipated games for 2015, will be released for PS4, Xbox One and PC.

The game has become so popular that a sequel was speculated shortly after "Fallout 3" was released in 2008. According to Cinema Blend, there are only a few official facts that fans know about the upcoming game and the rest are phony or unconfirmed.

The works for "Fallout 4" did not really begin as far back as Feb. 12, nearly four years after "Fallout 3" was launched. But Bethesda was said to have hired programmers within that month and it was not officially announced that the job would be for "Fallout 4" for a new generation of consoles. In addition, the works for the upcoming game was not the full focus of Bethesda at that time because "Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" was only three months old and therefore its patches and DLC were prioritized and it was not until last year that the studio officially finished the DLC for "Elder Scrolls." It was only then when the programmers began working on "Fallout 4."

But Bethesda was already certain that a sequel to "Fallout 3" will be made. In 2008, Bethesda's vice president of PR Pete Hines told TVG, "This is not something we're going to do once and then go away and never do it again."

He added, "When that will be or how long that will be god only knows, but we acquired it specifically because we wanted to own it and develop it and work on it like we do with The Elder Scrolls."

"Fallout 4" will hopefully be released on Nov. 10 despite rumors that the release might be pushed back to 2016 because "Fallout 4" is the first game in the "Fallout" series to be developed for PS4 and Xbox. Meanwhile, the controls system for Xbox One has already been revealed.
