BlackBerry Priv Release Date: Verizon To Offer The Android Phone in Early 2016 [Rumors]

A new rumor about Blackberry Priv has surfaced on Monday saying that customers of US-based biggest mobile carrier Verizon will be able to get the new Android phone in early 2016. The news comes after a leaked photo of the phone with the Verizon logo has been circulating online, a report from iDigital Times said.

"While the 2016 timeline remains a rumor for now, a new photo of the Priv running on Verizon has appeared on Instagram courtesy of apertura64 that might help calm things down just a little bit for those waiting and hoping for a Verizon announcement to be made. Outside of early comments about the Priv arriving on all four national US carriers made by Evan Blass back in August, this is the first time a Verizon version has appeared in any real capacity," Crackberry reported.

Techtimes reports that there have been previous rumors about Verizon that were actually true. For instance, famous technology leaker Evan Blass revealed several months ago that BlackBerry Priv, formerly known as "Venice," will be sold by four biggest mobile carriers in the U.S., namely: T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint and Verizon.

"To this date, none of the mobile data providers in the U.S. has made any official announcement about the Priv being supported. BlackBerry, on the other hand, will start to answer orders and ship the unlocked phone beginning the week of Nov. 9," the report said.

Blackberry said that since there are two existing mobile systems, GSM and CDMA, customers who buy the unlocked devices can only use the latter on both AT&T and T-Mobile.

"BlackBerry is not allowing pre-orders for CDMA networks. Customers with Sprint, Verizon or any carrier that uses a CDMA-based system cannot pre-order the phone. Blackberry is only shipping pre-orders for the phone for GSM based phone carriers, which is great for most carriers including AT&T and T-Mobile. GSM networks require a SIM card, great for international travelers," iDigital Times noted.
