Tommy Hilfiger, the fashion mogul's penthouse at the Plaza Hotel in New York City has reportedly hit the listing market with a lofty price tag of $80 million. This is the most expensive listing of the building, according to several news reports.
Hilfiger put together the duplex condo after purchasing three separate units for a total of $25 million in 2008. He spent another $17 million on renovating the place, which took about three years.
"I wanted to bring back the original vision of The Plaza to what it was during Truman Capote's Black and White Ball ... that old-world charm, with the original detail and glamour," Hilfiger said in an interview with AOL real estate.
After the renovation, it was listed briefly for $50 million but was taken off the market soon, Hilfiger and his wife are selling the place to spend more time in their 22-acre Greenwich property, the couple's exclusive broker told the New York Times.
According to the listing records at StreetEasy.com, the home sits on the 18th and 19th floor of the building and spans an area of about 6000 square feet. The residence comprises of four bedrooms, four full and one half bathroom.
